Essay Two
I watched the documentary "America the Beautiful" in order to gain some inspiration on how I wanted to approach the making of my short documentary that had a similar topic, and effectively get my point across.
America the Beautiful discusses the overall issue of America's obsession with beauty and how that has effected our perception completely. This film uses many different element like interviewing many different types of people to gain different perspectives on this topic, doing social experiments, and using external artifacts. All of these things added great dimension and interest to this film, which was something that I wanted to emulate.
A main element/focal point of this film was the documentation of the life of a girl named Gerren Taylor, an up and coming model at the time. Who was 12 years old. Yes, twelve years old. This was what gripped me the most with this film, it proved the point of the extremeness in today's society when it comes to beauty and really helped with turning an abstract idea into something visual.
